The Chemistry Olympiad Sri Lanka committee is organizing two Chemistry Practical training workshops to help students sitting for A/Ls this year.

The Advanced Level Practical Training Workshop on Qualitative analysis in Inorganic and Organic chemistry will be held on June 06th 2024 from 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

The Advanced Level Practical Training Workshop on Physical chemistry will be held on June 13th 2024 from 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

Hands-on Practical workshop will be conducted for 4 hours in the ICHEMC laboratory by the teaching assistants.

Benefits
• Will provide hands-on experience (most of the experiments will be done individually). Procedures and observations absorb quicker and stronger when you do it on your own.
• Will provide all necessary chemicals, glassware, handouts, and safety equipment.
• All practicals are based on A/L Chemistry Practical Handbook (2018).
• All sessions will be conducted by senior lecturers.
• Teaching assistants will properly guild you to do practical.

A participation certificate will be awarded

Medium: Sinhala, English

Course Fee – Rs 3000 per student

Pay this amount to the following bank account and email the slip or receipt to cosl@ichemc.edu.lk to confirm your seat.
• A/C name: Institute of Chemistry Ceylon
• Acc. No: 3271080
• Bank : Bank of Ceylon
• Branch: Rajagiriya

Qualitative analysis in Inorganic and Organic chemistry Workshop

Practicals covered during Workshop
• Identification of elements in compounds by the flame test
• Identification of anions (halides, SO42-, SO32- , S2O32- , S2, CO32- , NO3 )
• Identification of the colours of complex ions in an aqueous medium
• Observation of reactions and properties of alkenes and alkynes and bromine water.
• Examination of the properties of alcohols
• Examination of the properties of phenol
• Tests for aldehydes and ketones
• Examination of the properties of carboxylic acids

Physical Chemistry Chemistry Practical Training Workshop

It  is focused on essential parts in question numbers 3,5,6, and 7 G.C.E.(A/L) chemistry paper part 2

The experiments below will be covered:

1. Molar volume of gases
2. Chemical kinetics
3. pH curves and ionic equilibrium
4. Solubility product
5. Distribution coefficient
6. Electrochemical cells

We will offer a complete workbook for the experiments. You will perform these experiments either individually or group wise. Record your readings and perform the necessary calculations diligently. Towards the end we will discuss the calculations and do some problem solving.

These hands-on experiments are designed to give you a profound understanding of physical chemistry which many students often find challenging.

The maximum number of participants per workshop will be 50. Therefore, if you are interested, reserve your seat by completing the registration form and making the payment to our bank account.
Don’t miss this valuable opportunity.
